About Deep Transformational Coaching
What brings one to Deep Coaching?
What can be discovered of ourselves beyond our conditioned thinking? There must be more to learn…and there is.
Most change first presents itself in an outward manner, but what often begs for our attention is the need for inner change. Our relationship with ourselves fundamentally impacts our relationship with the world around us. Through personal experience, I can say that it is only profound and provocative change that can drive us out of our conditioned ways of being. Such a change opens us to ask the seminal question: "Who Am I?". We begin to feel a desire to change our mindsets, core beliefs, values, priorities, and perceived obstacles and limitations.
Deep Coaching
Leon VanderPol, founder of The Center for Deep Transformational Coaching, has described deep coaching as follows:
[Deep Coaching is] a form of transformational coaching which ‘swims at the deep end’ of the coaching continuum…. The Deep Coaching approach rests upon a key presumption: we are spiritual beings having a human experience. We know that transformation itself is a healing journey which leads us ultimately to the realization of our being, of I AM – our essential identity – and our essence is spirit (with a small s). Therefore, it makes perfect sense that in deep transformational work the presence and action of a vast evolutionary intelligence and organizing life force, what I am labeling as Spirit, is, not only accounted for, but leveraged in support of personal evolution. In Deep Coaching we recognize the reality of Spirit and the role it plays in the process of calling forth the magnificence of our true Self and soul....
[Deep Coaching] recognizes that shifting ways of being is an avenue for shifting consciousness, and thus to enduring perceptual and behavioral change. In a Deep Coaching session, the intention is...to have experienced a core-level, ‘felt shift’ in being.
Deep Coaching Nurtures a Spiritual Partnership
The relationship that develops between a deep coach and coachee fosters a spiritual partnership that supports the coachee in his or her spiritual growth. In describing the formation of a spiritual partnership, Elyse Hope Killoran, the founder of the Prosperity Partnership Program, says, “Spiritual Partnering refers to a conscious path of relating in which two (or more) individuals hold an intention for their relationship to serve a higher purpose.” For more information, read her Ten Elements of Spiritual Partnering.
As spiritual partners, the personal bond cultivated within the coaching experience gives space and time for profound communication. Our innate capacity for thought, logic, insight, and creativity, along with our life experiences inform and enliven the transformational process, starting from the inside out. This process opens the coachee to expanding layers of self-understanding.
Through a shared commitment by the coach and coachee, waves of higher wisdom arise, intensifying facets of one’s extraordinary inner potential. Although there is a correspondent waning after each wave, in time that new layer of self stabilizes in consciousness and in the coachee's personality.
The Role of the Deep Coach
An effective deep coach serves primarily through being present with you in your process. To provide the space for your transformational experiences to authentically unfold, your coach must already have traveled the path of transformation to conscious being, as I have. From this place of conscious being, a coach embodies the following practices (adapted from A Shift in Being, by Leon VanderPol).
As your coach:
-
I practice presencing and deep listening which allows for you, as coachee, and me, as coach, to tune into a greater sense of your inner world and of Essence, letting that lead.
-
I slow down and sync with the deeper rhythm of Life and Spirit.
-
I allow for silence to express itself and to just Be.
-
I guide you more through the expression of the heart, allowing your mind to serve the heart.
-
I foster the emergence of what wants to happen within you.
-
I trust in the mystery and magic of your transformational process, even when you cannot.
-
I expand the space that holds you and supports your capacity to be with your pain, allowing for transformation.
As your deep coach, I may also introduce active approaches that:
-
Help you to relate better to your thinking and emotions
-
Guide you towards new states of consciousness
-
Hear you, challenge you and nudge you
-
Hold you accountable to yourself
-
Help you through obstacles and challenges
-
Honestly reflect back to you
The Coachee – who is Deep Coaching for?
Deep Coaching is not for everyone. It is for people who yearn to know themselves more fully and to experience life from an expansive, grounded perspective.
To benefit from Deep Coaching, you must be ready for a deep inner transformational journey. This journey depends upon your inner strength and adaptability and upon your desire and willingness for profoundly honest self-insight.
As your coach, I learn to know you in depth: the workings of your heart and mind, your strengths, your limitations, and the questions deep within you that are propelling your transformation. To allow this, you need to gain trust in me, as your coach, and in the transformational process itself. Your trust will allow you to progressively plumb the depths of your being, as you share this process with me.
Working with a deep coach is a worthwhile investment in your transformational journey. Being a coachee requires an investment of both time and money from you. After your initial exploratory call, you are invited to commit to deep coaching sessions.
Deep Coaching is not for everyone.
But, it could be for You.
